Increasing Your Speed

Test Your Internet Speed

If you would like to test your internet connection. Please click Here.

Slow Speeds

  • Do you have enough memory? If your system resources are low, your computer may be working too hard and you may experience slow speeds.

  • If you are uploading or downloading files in the background while trying to surf the Internet, you may be experiencing slow speeds

  • If you are experiencing slow speeds, run an antivirus and antispyware scan. Spyware and viruses will use your system resources and slow down your Internet.

  • Have you installed new software recently? It may be set to use your Internet connection to check for updates or check in to a server, which may lead to a slowdown of the Internet

  • Have you installed new hardware recently? It could be conflicting with other hardware on your computer creating a slowdown, or its drivers could be set to check on the Internet for updates.

  • Check to make sure that another computer in your network isn't uploading or downloading large files, which could make the rest of the computers on the network experience slow speeds.

  • Check your computer's hardware to verify that all of your hardware is working correctly.

Intermittent Connections

  • If you find your Internet connection dropping a lot, try bypassing the router; connect your modem directly to a computer. (Reset the modem after changing the connections). If this fixes the problem, contact your router support.

  • Check your computer's hardware to verify that all of your hardware is working correctly.

Offline

  • Is the online light on your modem solid? If not, try resetting your modem by unplugging it from the outlet, wait 20 seconds, then plug it in. Follow up by resetting your router, if you have one

  • If your online light is flashing, or you have a standby light that is solid, your modem is probably in standby mode, press the standby button in the back to turn it off.

  • Check your browser to see if it set to work offline. In Internet Explorer and Firefox click on File and verify that 'Work Offline' isn't checked; if it is simply click on it to turn it off.

  • Check your firewall to ensure that it isn't set to block all Internet access.

  • Check your computer's hardware to verify that all of your hardware is working correctly.
