Broadstripe 911 Notification
REMINDER REGARDING
911
The Federal Communication Commission recently issued a ruling to assure
that all subscribers have been informed of how their 911 service works
and to record acknowledgments of such notice. Failure to respond and
acknowledge receipt may result in your service being suspended. Please
read the following reminder regarding the availability of 911 service
using Broadstripe Voice service and click the acknowledgment below.
Broadstripe currently provides Enhanced 911 (E-911) service to many of
our customers. With E911 service a caller's contact phone number (call
back number) and location are automatically passed to the appropriate
911 Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP). Some Broadstripe Voice
customers, depending on their service location, are provided Basic 911
service. With Basic 911 service a caller's contact phone number and
location are not transferred, so the caller must provide this
information to the emergency operator. In addition, with Basic 911 the
connection may not be directed to the appropriate emergency operator for
your specific community (or it may be to an administrative number), so
it is important to give the answering party your location and call back
number.
For Broadstripe Voice's E911 and Basic 911 service to function properly
your MTA must be activated, you must register your Service Address and
you must not move your MTA from your Service Address. Your Service
Address is the physical location where your account is established for
service with Broadstripe's billing system, typically the same location
as your Broadstripe cable television and/or internet service (or other
high speed data service) and your MTA is located. The MTA may be moved
to different locations, but 911 service may not function properly in the
new location.
Broadstripe plans to provide all Broadstripe Voice customers with E911
service at their Service Address by November 28, 2005
In addition, you need to be aware of the following 911 limitations
regarding your Broadstripe Voice service and you should inform any other
persons who may use the service of such limitations:
1. Broadstripe Voice service, including the ability to dial 911, will
not work in the event of a power failure or failure of your broadband
service.
2. If you do not register your Service Address your location cannot be
passed to the emergency operator and your call may not be passed to the
appropriate emergency operator.
3. If you move your MTA to a different service location without
registering the new location as your Service Address your 911 service
will not function properly. Further, when you register the new location
there will be a delay, as the public safety organization databases must
be updated with the new information-911 service will not be immediately
available.
4. Basic 911 or E911 service may not function properly if you attempt to
use the MTA on a non- Broadstripe broadband system.
If you have specific questions regarding 911 service in your area,
please contact your local Broadstripe office. It is wise to always have
alternative means of accessing emergency services.
